Race Description

The 3rd Annual Carondelet Get Moving Tucson takes place in Downtown Tucson on Sunday morning, October 21st at 7:00 AM. This is the 28th running of the annual SAR 10-miler and 5K running race and non-competitive family fitness walk.

Date and Time

Sunday, October 19, 2008, Tucson Convention Center, Downtown Tucson

7 AM start for both the 10 mile running race and the 5k race and family friendly walk.

Come join Carondelet Health Network and the Southern Arizona Roadrunners for a world-class event in the heart of Downtown Tucson:

  • First-ever Downtown 10-miler, with both 10-mile run and 5kwalk/run courses starting and ending at the TCC and winding throughout historic Downtown Tucson - 10 miler goes over scenic Basket and Rattlesnake Bridges, along Fourth Avenue and through the UA - the 5k family-friendly walk and run winds throughout Downtown neighborhoods.   • Thanks to Tucson Downtown Partnership, the Michael P. Nordberg Band rock n’ roll band will rock the runners across the finish line!
  • Great weekend getaway: Discounted hotel pricing at the historic Hotel Congress and the Arizona Hotel ($79) for out-of-town visitors - both are within walking distance of the start/finish line
  • Pre-race Pasta Dinner at the Hotel Congress, Saturday night, October 20th
  • Be serenaded by the Japanese Drummers (Tucson Taiko Kyokai)!
  • Raffles for all, age group awards, and prize money for top runners

Race Distances and Courses

10 mile running race

The 10-miler begins and ends at the Tucson Convention Center, and will wind through historic Downtown Tucson, the Basket Bridge, the Rattlesnake Bridge, the Fourth Avenue district, and the University of Arizona. The 10-miler is part of the Desert Grand Prix, with prize money, age group awards, and raffle prizes to all.

5K race and family fitness walk

The 3.1 mile course will let you share the fun with thousands of walkers and runners. Prizes and raffles in the running race, with a family-friendly non-competitive walk. All walkers eligible for raffle prizes.

Both Downtown race hotels offer discounts to all participants and are steps away from the start/finish line.

Registration

SAR is committed to providing high-quality events at a reasonable cost. Pricing for Get Moving Tucson includes several early-registration discount options, but all registration by mail must be postmarked by October 8th, 2007.

In-person registration and early registration packet pick-up is available at The Running Shop (3055 N Campbell - map). Register for the race and pick up your goodie bag and race number on Saturday, October 20th from 10-4.

Race day registration & packet pick-up will be available at Tucson Convention Center, 5:30-6:30 AM. Please be sure to arrive early enough to register on time!

Awards

All 5k and 10-Mile registrants will receive a colorful t-shirt and will be eligible for a variety of raffle prizes.

Prize money to top finishers in 10-miler and 5k. All 10-mile and 5k prize money is courtesy of The Running Shop.

Age group awards in the 10-miler and 5k run presented to the first, second, third, and fourth place finishers in 10-year increments (under 15 in 5k, 15-20; 20-29; 30-39; 40-49; 50-59; 60-69; 70-79, 80+).

Top three overall and Master's winner taken out of age group awards. All participants are eligible for raffle prizes.

Charities

Proceeds from the event will fund a host of local charities, including Big Brothers, Big Sisters, and Carondelet Health Network wellness and fitness programs for our community.
