The 2010 28th Annual Oracle Run by Darrell Klesch
Mary Lasser, SAR President November 9, 2010A gorgeous autumn morning greeted 200 plus gorgeous runners in Oracle on Saturday, Halloween Eve. A fantastic 28th Annual Oracle Run ensued!
Ian Johnson tied the third fastest time ever, winning the 10K SAR Grand Prix event in a sizzling 34:43! Ian was followed by 19 year old Stephen Shaefer (36:36) and Masters Champ (40+) Shaun Haley who finished in 37:45.
Tia Accetta claimed her first win in this run with 40 “flat”, clocking a 6:36 mile pace on this hilly terrain. Another top Tucson runner, Stephanie Wenneborg, placed second overall in the women’s division. This year’s female Masters Champion went to Polly Campbell, who was the third lady crossing the finish line in 42:37.
Last years champion and course record holder, Craig Curley, sat out this year due to a training schedule for some other event—-the 2012 Olympics! Good excuse but we missed him. Also missing was Paula Morrison, who has dominated this tough run for the last few years. Paula is recovering from hip surgery and is shooting for a complete recovery.
Other notable times were recorded by runners such as 68 year old Norris Taylor, who came in 63rd, finishing in 51:34 and 73 year old Paul Robilla who crossed the finish line a minute later in 52:51! Paul bested legendary runner Don Branaman in the 70+ age group. Don (57:52) garnered second place—-adding to his impressive trophy collection, 1850 and counting! Don won the first Oracle Run. Don’s running mate, Sue Smith, completed her 28th Oracle Run and nabbed first place in the women’s 70+ category. Sue also possesses an incredible racing career. Miriam Hyatt, 75, proudly accepted the second place award. And lastly, the Seniors Championship (60+) went to 67 year old Judy Shyman. She won with a time of 61:32. Richard Senti nailed down the senior male division in 47:52!
The reality is that everyone who participated, both runners and run helpers, were the real winners on this beautiful fall day in the historic town of Oracle. The Oracle Historical Society, sponsors of this 10K SAR Grand Prix event, is truly gratified by the turn-out and is already looking forward to seeing you all next Halloween!
All unclaimed age group awards can be picked up at the Running Shop after Wednesday, November 10th, 2010! Awards were given to top three in each age group.
Enjoy the 2010 Oracle Run ditty!
The Oracle Run Is Only Fun…
On behalf of the Oracle Historical Society…WELCOME!!
We think it’s fab—it’s just great
that you all are running in Oracle Run #28!
This year, for your revelation,
we’ve marked the courses’ elevations.
You know—-the highs and lows of…those….hills!
the ones with the thrills,
sometimes chills.
hopefully no spills…
the inclines—the declines
which makes you want to recline.
Again, we want to express our gratitudes
for you all running through these latitudes.
And always remember this:
THE ORACLE RUN IS ONLY REALLY FUN——-
————————-WHEN ITS DONE!!
peace on—-Darrell Klesch—-race director
