A little information about the Pima Community College Track and Field/Cross Country Teams…
Over 75 student-athletes are on the roster for the 2010-11 Track and Field season. Both the Track & Field and Cross Country Teams have enjoyed success at the national level in recent years with an individual national champion coming from Pima in three of the last four years. Pima Cross Country or Track & Field teams have placed in the top 10 at the National Championships 8 times in the last 5 years! Our last national champion was Cholla High School Alumni Aurora Trujillo. She won the national title in the 3000 meter steeplechase at the NJCAA National Championships in May of 2009 and set the school record on the way. The year before that, it was Sahuaro’s Jeremiah Korn in the Shot Put who took home the title. National caliber alumni Craig Curley competed for Pima and is now a qualifier for the 2012 U.S. Olympic Marathon Trials.
We have high hopes for the coming season and seem to be firing on all cyliders. Our team has grown tremendously and we are experiencing some growing pains. The team would like to raise $10,000 to pay for team supplies, shoes or books for needy student-athletes, an additional coach, and any other needs that arise that are not covered by our budget. You can help by signing up and participating in the Sun Run! Also, Track and Cross Country Athletes will be at the event and will be selling coupon cards for $20 that help with fundraising. If you would like to make a donation to the program, please contact Head Coach Greg Wenneborg at 520-977-4072 or by email at .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address).
We appreciate your support and participation in the 2011 Sun Run 5k and 10k!
