NEWS RELEASE: Live music courtesy of the Michael Nordberg Band

Tucson, Arizona - May 8, 2007 - The Southern Arizona Roadrunners announces that local musician Michael Nordberg will headline at the first annual Meet Me Downtown 5k Night Run to take place on Saturday night, June 2, 2007.

Presented by The Tucson Association of REALTORS, the Meet Me Downtown 5k Night Run is one of the region’s most unique running events. The evening’s festivities include the run and walk, free food for participants from top Downtown restaurants, live music courtesy from Michael Nordberg, and a free showing of the Academy Award winning film, Chariots of Fire, at the historic Fox Theatre.

The concert by Michael Nordberg promises to be exciting. As his web page says: "Soul, funk, jazz, blues, honky-tonk and rock meld seamlessly together on the nine-track self-release by songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Michael Nordberg. The singer has compiled tunes that immediately get ya doin’ happy groove dances - even if done in the office chair at the cube farm. The hip shaking tunes are shag inspiring and penned by a Tucsonan who spent the last decade in NYC. Influenced by James Brown, Sly Stone and Stax Records, Nordberg also smartly includes female backing vocals that help define the songs."

The event begins at 6:00pm on Saturday night, June 2. The 3.1 mile running race and walk begins and ends in La Placita Village and winds through Downtown neighborhoods. Runners, walkers, and families can participate in the race and the companion non-competitive walk.

Every runner receives two free entries to the June 2 Fox Theatre showing of Chariots of Fire. Tickets for others are a discounted rate of $5 per ticket. Chariots of Fire begins at 8:00 PM.

Following the event, participants and family are invited to the post-race festivities that include gourmet restaurant food from Downtown restaurants such as the Hotel Congress’s Cup Café, Chris’s Cafe, and the Central Bistro. The Hotel Congress will also provide 2-for-1 beverages to every runner with a bib number after the race.

Local radio personality 92.9 The Mountain’s Jenny Grabel will also run the 5k, and will share emcee duties with Randy Accetta, from the Southern Arizona Roadrunners.

Beneficiaries of the event include the Fox Theatre Foundation and the Southern Arizona Roadrunners Children’s Fitness Fund.

The event is produced by Randy Accetta and the Southern Arizona Roadrunners and sponsored by the Tucson Association of REALTORS. Additional sponsors include the Running Shop, Caliente and the Arizona Daily Star, 92.9 The Mountain, Clear Channel, Hotel Congress, Cushing Street Bar and Restaurant, and the Central Bistro. Civic partners include Greater Tucson Leadership, the Tucson Convention Center, the City of Tucson’s Activate Tucson Program, and Tucson Downtown Alliance.
