August 31, 2000 - Local runner and SAR member Rob Bell died Thursday evening. After a brief warmup prior to his Thursday evening workout with The Workout Group, Rob was struck by a severe heart attack.
Three of Rob's running companions, a doctor and two EMTs, immediately tried to resuscitate him until emergency crews arrived. He was taken to University Medical Center where he was pronounced dead. Rob was a soft-spoken man with a shaved head, a mustache, and a big grin. Because he was so friendly and approachable, most of the running community knew him. Rob attended many local events because he loved to run and loved to race. Many of his very closest friends were runners. Rob left behind a wife, daughter, and two grandchildren, and will be missed deeply in our community. Many have a fond story about running or hanging out with Rob that should be shared in the next days, months, and years. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the United Cerebral Palsy Foundation in the name of Chance Lowe.
